Young Researcher Award

Muthiah Subramanian, MD, DM

AIG Hospitals, Hyderabad, India

Dr. Muthiah Subramanian completed his cardiology residency at Amrita University in 2018. He joined Dr. Narasimhan’s team at CARE Hospital in 2018. After completing his EP fellowship, he has been working with the same team as a consultant electrophysiologist for the last 5 years.

In addition to clinical electrophysiology, he has developed a keen interest in the evaluation and management of inherited cardiomyopathies, including hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. As a result of these combined interests, his current research is focused on utilizing Bachmann Bundle Pacing for atrial resynchronization in patients with HFpEF.

Distinguished Scientist Award

Atul Verma, MD,

McGill University, Montreal, Canada

Dr. Atul Verma is a global leader in atrial fibrillation (AF) therapy with over 300 peer-reviewed publications, including landmark studies in the New England Journal of Medicine. He pioneered pulsed field ablation (PFA).

As principal investigator of the PULSED AF trial, he demonstrated PFA’s safety (0.7% complication rate) and efficacy (66.2% success in paroxysmal AF).

His STAR AF II trial reshaped guidelines by showing pulmonary vein isolation alone is sufficient for many persistent AF patients.

In addition, his translational research explores cutting-edge technologies including ultra-low temperature cryoablation and needle ablation, reaffirming his impact on advancing global electrophysiology.

Distinguished Teacher Award

Samuel Asirvatham, MD

Mayo Clinic

  • Dr. Samuel Asirvatham is an internationally recognized educator and innovator whose teaching career spans medicine, pediatrics, biomedical engineering, and anatomy.
  • He has received multiple "Teacher of the Year" awards at Mayo Clinic and national honors including the Heart Rhythm Society’s Distinguished Teacher Award and ACC’s W. Proctor Harvey Young Teacher Award.
  • As Program Director of Mayo's EP Fellowship since 2006, he has mentored generations of electrophysiologists. He authored the Mayo Clinic Electrophysiology Manual and integrates cutting-edge research—including over 100 issued patents—into the learning experience. His interdisciplinary, learner-centered approach exemplifies the essence of this award
